iPad Unboxing
Say hello to Mr. Tumnus.
Welcome to my Narnia family! You will be loved! LOL!
After one canceled Apple order, five auctions, problematic Paypal payment, and two weeks of waiting, the iPad has arrived yesterday, May 24, 2010. The last time I was so excited for a gadget was two years ago when Prince Caspian, my iPhone, was delivered to me.
I named the Apple tablet Mr. Tumnus after the Chronicles of Narnia character. You see, all my Apple gadgets are named after the Narnians: my 5-year old iPod Mini as Polly, iPod Shuffle as Lucy, MacBook as Digory, iPhone as Prince Caspian, and now this, Mr. Tumnus.
If those weren’t enough, I named the WiFi network at my parents’ house as Narnia and at our house, Pevensie. I have yet to name something as Aslan. And that for me, will be the ultimate Apple gadget acquisition: an iMac. Good luck to me! (#asaohangad)
This is my husband’s Mother’s Day, birthday, one-year of mommyhood, and Christmas “gift” to me. BUT I paid for this one. I told him I didn’t need his money, all I wanted was his “permission”. So there.
First impressions:
- Ganda!
- Ay mabigat!
- Manipis!
- Ay…nasisilaw ako…
- It really is a giant iPod Touch.
A number of iPad reviews say that the Apple mobile device is not for everyone. I agree. Not because of the price because it depends on one’s use. Hardcore geeks and programmers won’t be able to work on the iPad. Bloggers will enjoy typing on the on-screen keyboard but will have a hard time with the photos. Those who just browse the Internet will find this very useful.
I haven’t played with the iPad much because it is always in the hands of my husband. First night, he slept late because he was downloading and playing the musical instrument apps.
Noah especially likes the Virtuoso Piano app. I gave the iPad to him while he was in his crib a while ago. He was happy to play with it but got bored after a while. I could only hear the music from the piano and was impressed by how he’s doing only to find that he’s not touching the keys. Why, he was already stepping on the iPad! Kalurkey! Haha!
I have yet to post these unboxing photos on our gadget website and write an official review. For now, I’ll let Josh and Noah (and my mommy too!) to enjoy Mr. Tumnus.
I can has an ipad!
Eeek! Not eco-friendly
Yun oh
Peechur, peechur!
I was browsing through EKKAMAI, my external HD, when I realized I’ve taken a lot of pictures already. About 25% of my 250GB storage are photos I took since 2006. That’s a lot! I guess I should do a back-up soon enough because you’ll never know when my HD would go bonkers.
And then I realized again I’ve got a handful of cameras. I’ve got five actually. I started with a digicam, then the DSLR, and then the toy cameras I seldom use now.
Canon IXUS 60. I bought this for P 16,000 way back in July 2006 for my birthday. It was my first. I could be seen holding this almost everyday for about two years. I took pictures of almost every event, everyone, and everything I found interesting. It has been with me through thick and thin. I call this digital camera “Gas” because three days after I got it, it was scratched already— gasgas-ed. :p

Nikon D40 DSLR. I wanted to get the D40x but I found a good deal over at eBay. I bought this April 2008. The Canon IXUS 60 was still working perfectly fine but I thought of becoming serious with photography so I thought it was time to get a DSLR. Just like Gas, the D40 which I named “Blade” is always used. Every Sunday, I’d bring it to church to take photos of the people, the service, and more random stuff. I just didn’t have the time to take photography classes because of work and ministry. I still don’t know how to use that cam except for the basic functions simply because I’m too lazy to read the manual and tinker with it.

VIVITAR ULTRA WIDE AND SLIM. One of the three toy cameras I own. I have only used this once. Why, I haven’t even finished that one roll of film.

HOLGA 120N. My lomo cam! I already used a few rolls but I haven’t had them processed yet even after one year. I first brought this to Bangkok. I brought this to Singapore and Hong Kong too but wasn’t able to use it. I forgot why. Right now, the Holga cam is sitting on my computer table as a decor.

HOLGA BABY 110 Toy Camera. I’ve got the pink one! I find this so cute and easy to use. I thought I broke it when we were in Thailand but glad I was able to fix it. Like the Holga 120N and the Vivitar’s films, I haven’t gotten the rolls I’ve used processed.
One of these days, I will have the film rolls processed. When? Certainly before I give birth. After that, I might sell these three toy cameras because I don’t always use them.
If I have the money to buy new one, I only have two cameras in mind: a Canon D10 and a Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S. I fell in love with the latter when I saw Riz’s. It’s similar to a Polaroid cam. Using it can be a bit expensive but I think it’s fun to actually see the photo slowly appear right before your eyes. About the Canon D10, well, I’d like to have a waterproof digital camera. Something that could be very handy especially when Noah comes.
