No commentsFor the love of reading…
DAY 25. I only started reading storybooks to Noah two nights ago. I bought these children’s books from OMF Literature over the weekend as gifts for my little cousins for Christmas but I thought I’d read them first. I know the baby won’t be able to understand the story but I just want him to hear my voice.
The first time I read a book, I ran out of breath. I guess I wasn’t used to speaking for more than five minutes now as I rarely open my mouth nowadays. When I do talk, it’s obvious that I feel tired. Husband was surprised that I was reading a book at about 1 am. I told him I’m reading your baby a book and so he smiled.
I think one of those things I will instill in my kid is the value of reading. Ever since we found out we’re pregnant, I started to read again. Of course, pregnancy books are on top of my list but I’m also reading books about the youth ministry.
I always enjoy my trips to either National Bookstore, OMF, or Fully Booked. I haven’t gone to any Power Books store lately because I don’t frequent Megamall much. Book-shopping is something Joshie isn’t against. He simply tells me to make sure I read them.
I remember how two years ago, I spent more than P7,000 on books alone. That was, one day! However, those were not for me but the devotional books we got as our wedding giveaways. Haha! He hadn’t even proposed then but we bought the books way ahead of time. That’s what you call being prepared! Hekhek.
The other day, I brought Juju to the mall with me. I promised to buy her one item: either a toy, pair of slippers, clothes, or books. Guess what she chose? Books. I was so happy with her decision that she even reminded me to go back to the bookstore. I wish she’d carry on the habit. She’s at this stage where she’s learning how to read and it’s amazing that she actually can.
I haven’t gone on book shopping for Noah. Maybe I will when I decide to go Christmas shopping. I want him to love reading because of its many benefits.
I searched online about the importance of reading to your babies and here’s what I found out:
- teaches a baby about communication
- introduces concepts such as numbers, letters, colors, and shapes in a fun way
- builds listening, memory, and vocabulary skills
- gives babies information about the world around them source
I’d want our baby to be smart and talented. Oh, I know he will. But it will still take Daddy Josh and Mommy Reah patience and a lot of time to help him develop his full potential. May God help us.
Bye Besty
DAY 21. I’m meeting with my besty Ces later. I’m so excited! Thing is, I don’t know if she’ll really show up. Haha! It’s raining and there is no car available. I am hoping Josh comes home early so he could accompany me.
She’s leaving tomorrow and this is the only time we could finally be together. You see, we were supposed to meet last week but she fell asleep! I was already at the mall waiting. Good thing I met up with my cousin that day too so I had company.
I promise not to cry tonight. You know, when we say our goodbyes. I’ve been doing that every time she’d come for a visit. This time, I know it’d be different.
I’m not going to write a tribute tonight but I’ll just say she’s such a good friend. She bought plane tickets for my sister to visit me here for the baby shower she planned. So sweet of her! I don’t think I could ever top that surprise. She went here from the US for my wedding. I don’t think I could do that when she gets married. I am hoping to see her next January though. God-willing.
